About Wayne Bennett OAM

Wayne James Bennett OAM, born 1 January 1950, is a celebrated figure in Australian rugby league. Known as “Benny,” he is the current head coach of the Dolphins in the NRL. Bennett has a prestigious coaching history, leading teams like the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Brisbane Broncos, Newcastle Knights, and the Queensland Maroons.

He holds a record for the most grand final wins in Australian Rugby League and has coached over a thousand first-grade games. His achievements include seven premierships from ten finals in the NRL, Super League, and NSW Rugby League. Bennett has also coached internationally, contributing to teams like the NRL All Stars, Australian Kangaroos, England, and Great Britain.

He started as a player, representing Australia and Queensland, and transitioned to coaching in 1976. Recognised for his impact on the sport, he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2012.
