Accepting the Challenge with Leigh Matthews

With a playing and coaching career spanning four decades, Leigh’s achievements an individual were significant in the game.

Adopting the self-explanatory nickname ‘Lethal’ while still a teenager and considered one of the toughest players ever to don a guernsey, following more than four decades in the game, Leigh will be offering rare insights into the life and learning experiences that have shaped his phenomenally successful, occasionally turbulent journey.

We are delighted to extend a complimentary invitation to join us to hear first hand how Coraggio can expand and future proof your business, followed by this upfront and personal keynote speaker session with former AFL player and coach, Leigh Matthews.

Opened by Coraggio’s CEO, Richard Skarzynski, who will discuss how being a part of a Coraggio peer to peer Advisory Board provides a sustainable solution to navigate your business effectively throughout 2021 and beyond.

Leigh Matthews, embracing his customary steel, wry humour and brutal honesty will share insightful learnings regarding:

  • Blending individual ambition with team objectives
  • The never ending search for the competitive edge
  • The value of the Plan – Perform – Review Process
  • The art of listening.

About Leigh Matthews

Former Australian Rules Football player and coach

Leigh Matthews is still the youngest official legend in the Australian Football Hall of Fame, as a player with the Hawthorn Football Club from 1969-1985. He was an eight-time club champion winner, four-time premiership player and premiership captain. It is a record without parallel which has led to Leigh being regarded as the AFL Player of the Century.

He stepped into the coaching ranks at the famous Collingwood F.C. in 1986 and in 1990 took the club to it’s first premiership since 1958. The Brisbane Lions were on the bottom of the premiership and in disarray when they appointed Matthews as their coach in 1999 and he led the Lions to three flags in succession (2001, 2002, and 2003) and to runner’s up in 2004, a feat that has them ranked as the finest team of the modern era.

Since retiring from coaching, Leigh has become a respected commentator on television, radio and writes for the AFL website. He was recently upgraded to Legend status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
