Mother’s Day is a moment to pause – to appreciate the roles we hold, the people we support, and the businesses we build. For many female business owners, the lines between work and life often blur, and the concept of balance can feel more like a myth than a reality.

We see you – juggling leadership meetings and school runs, strategic plans and sick days, team dynamics and toddler tantrums. You’re not alone in the challenge. But it’s also true that balance isn’t about perfect symmetry. It’s about being intentional with your time, energy and focus – and giving yourself the grace to reset.

10 Grounded Strategies for Work-Life Balance

These aren’t hacks or quick fixes. They’re sustainable mindset shifts and tools we’ve seen help women manage both business and life with clarity and calm.

  1. Learn to Say “Not Right Now”

Not every opportunity, client, or meeting needs an immediate yes. Practice the discipline of “not right now” to protect your calendar and your capacity. It’s okay to preserve time for yourself or your family – even when the inbox is full.

  1. Design Your Week Around Energy, Not Just Tasks

Some days you’re in flow. Others, not so much. Design your week to match energy with priority – carve out deep work time for when you’re mentally sharp, and reserve admin or team check-ins for when energy dips.

  1. Create a ‘Reset Ritual’

Whether it’s a morning walk, a midweek yoga class, or a non-negotiable Sunday afternoon switch-off, having a personal ritual helps you reset. It signals that you’re stepping out of your business brain and into your life – even if just for an hour.

  1. Ask For Help – Without Guilt

Help isn’t a weakness, it’s a strategy. Whether it’s hiring that virtual assistant, leaning on your partner more, or simply admitting you can’t do it all – asking for help builds sustainability. Not just in business, but in life.

  1. Step Out of the Day-to-Day – On Purpose

This is where many business owners get stuck: always in the thick of it, rarely looking up. Taking time away from the day-to-day – to reflect, plan, and think long-term – is a powerful act of leadership.

“I have always kept my business life and my home life separate. I ensure that I finish my work whilst I am in the office. When I am at home, I devote my time to my family, friends and leisure activities.

I don’t have the email app on my phone, so I don’t get distracted by work emails popping up when I’m not at work. My clients also knew my schedule so would keep their inquiries until they knew I was in the office.”

– Janne Ashton, Former Founder of Plan Protect and Currently Coraggio’s Member Relations Director.

  1. Redefine What “Success” Looks Like – For You

Success doesn’t have to be 5am starts and 12-hour days. For some, it’s growth. For others, it’s flexibility. Take time to regularly reflect on what your version of success looks like – not the one you think you’re supposed to chase.

Try this: Ask yourself, “What does a good week look like – both professionally and personally?” Let that become your benchmark.

  1. Let Go of Perfectionism

Not everything needs to be polished, perfect, or Instagram-worthy. Sometimes, “done” is better than “flawless,” especially when it allows you to reclaim time or energy. Progress over perfection is what builds momentum.

  1. Build a ‘Home Team’ the Way You Build a Business Team

You build structure and support around your business – why not at home too? Whether it’s outsourcing household tasks, involving your partner more actively, or building a weekly family calendar, structure at home can reduce mental load and decision fatigue.

It’s not about doing it all. It’s about designing support systems that make space for the things only you can do.

  1. Connect with Other Women Who ‘Get It’

Being in business can be isolating. Add parenting or caregiving to the mix, and it can feel even more so. Whether it’s a formal group or a coffee with a fellow founder, connection helps validate your experience, share solutions, and prevent burnout.

Coraggio Members often tell us that just having honest conversations in a trusted space each month helps them feel less alone – and more empowered.

  1. Know That It’s OK To Drop the Ball – Sometimes

Some days, business will need more from you. Other days, your family will. You won’t always get the balance right, and that’s okay. Grace, not guilt, is key. You’re doing your best – and that’s more than enough.

Real Voices, Real Balance

This Mother’s Day, we’ll be sharing reflections from some of the incredible women in our community – the strategies they use, the lessons they’ve learned, and the ways they stay grounded in a busy world.

“I feel it’s important to manage the impact of ‘work life’ on family and always remember to bring your ‘best self’ home.

The key purpose for me is to show up for my business and family to ‘make a positive difference each day’, by inspiring, coaching, influencing and creating new ways to experience a rewarding life and work journey.

On the family front, I like to make time every day to ‘be in the moment’ to have a laugh, listen, talk, experience new things, create, share interests and being involved with family.

I block out 1 – 2 hours every day with family, taking my ‘work hat off’ to connect –  ‘talk about the day’ over dinner,  solve puzzle of the day, help neighbours with chores, dog walking, volunteer at charity events, park activities, support sport, music, enjoying food with family/friends, learning new things.

For me ‘Family is gold’. Time is like money and spending it in the right place at the right time each day helps create fun and rewarding memories.”

-Sylvia Leigh, Managing Director of Astrum Recruitment

“As a mother of an adult child who’s also in business, daily family obligations don’t apply, but the moment I’m needed, I’m in ‘mom’ mode.

I believe that if your family doesn’t come first, your business loses true value.  We both understand this, so time together might be little, but we always ensure it’s quality time!”

-Belinda Kuppens, General Manager of Electrotek.

Balance isn’t about perfection. It’s about making space for what matters – and giving yourself permission to pause. Whether that’s an hour to reflect, a walk to reset, or a day each month to zoom out and re-align your direction – it all counts.

To all the women building businesses and nurturing lives – you’re leading in more ways than you know. We see you. We celebrate you. And we wish you a Mother’s Day filled with space, support, and the strength to keep going.
